High`s Restaurant in Monterey

A weekend getaway brought us to the area. Went on a drive exploring and looking for a quaint place to have lunch. We stumbled upon High’s Resturant. Love the rotating menu and we just had the best fried mushrooms I have every had in my life. If your in the area, you have to stop in for a bite to eat. Don’t forget to ask about The Liar’s Table.

The food is out of this world and so reasonably priced. I don't see how these people make a profit on the quality of the food they serve at the price they sell it. The service is impeccable. Everyone seems to love working there. They have an actual European chef that makes the food. He came out and introduced himself after I asked to speak to him about the utter deliciousness of the food. Will definitely be eating here again when I return to Monterey.

Highs is a casual dining atmosphere with a wonderful menu. I had the mushroom swiss burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was as close to homemade as you can get. The food and the staff were wonderful. Oh! Try the caramel apple pie!

Very good food and service

This is a hidden gem.First we pulled up at 715 pm and they should have been closed. The owner met us at the door and I said , sorry we didn’t see your hours. He ask d are you hungry and of course we said yes, he said well come in in and eat.I had the house special, steak and three bourbon chicken wings.IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!OMG best steak ever cooked medium to perfection.Great finish with equally fantastic home made pie made on the premise l.You his is an awesome restaurant.Great service, fantastic food and down home cooking at its best!!!

Make sure you take the opportunity to get the dessert. I promise you’ll enjoy it.

Wow. I never would have expected to get such a delicious meal from this place. Incredibly nice people and the food was on point. A bunch of autographed photos of celebrities all over the place was cool too.

This is my second review of this place. Here is the good news nothing changed, fresh made hamburger and hand made fries. One of these days I'll be in the area for breakfast and review again. Also love the booths everyone leaves their name and date on them.

Small town restaurant - good food

I really like this place. We usually stopped there when we are on long motorcycle rides. The breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was friendly and efficient as well. What is not to like!

Coming off of the Pocahontas Highway? On your way to or from WV? Do not miss this hidden gem, just a stone’s throw from the Sunoco. Great classic diner feel, milkshake machine and all. Judging by the other customers and vibe inside, seemed to be a local staple, but visitors need not hesitate!Had the club sandwich and a milkshake and was not disappointed. Staff make you feel at home. A must-stop-by!

This is honestly the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. Lived all around the country, from the BBQ pits in Texas to the fresh seafood on the Atlantic to the cajun cooking in Louisiana. However, no place I've ever eaten has the perfect balance of great food and service like this place does.

Came here with my family last week and told the owner how impressed I was with the food and service and promised him I'd post a review. To the owner I met: I want to say that your staff was more than friendly and the food was out of this world. Hopefully when all this craziness dies down I can come back and see you guys again.

Possibly the worst food I have ever put in my mouth. The buckwheat pancakes were white, thinner then a crepe and tasted like rotten lemons, the sausage was past 3 weeks ago, eggs scrambled with burned specks, clumped together, cold, tasteless, and maybe cooked yesterday. Asked if I could eat from the lunch menu but told they weren't serving lunch for 10 min.?????? Hashbrowns that were actually yesterday's home fries. It was all you could eat. That's a joke. For 11$ there was nothing I could take more than 2 bites from. Maybe cancelling the Highland maple festival affected business, so why not rip off the unsuspecting diner. They should be ashamed and sorry.

Always good food and not high price

As a resident of Monterey, I want this restaurant to do well. It seems to be hit or miss. Breakfast is easy, especially eggs. However it hasn't been very pleasing the two times I've had it. I would be more than happy to come in and show you what I'm talking about so you can fix it. Dinner has been good. The rap music coming from the kitchen needs to go. Keep up the good work. Everything is a working progress when running a business.

Quiet little local place, a good menu, reasonably priced, delicious food

Not happy ! Didn't even tell us it was "all you can eat " we paid $27.00 for 3 pancakes an 1 order of sausage gravy.

I was extremely surprised. Some of the best food. It’s great, comfort, home cooked food and some of the nicest people there as well. The Fried Pickles are fantastic, as well as their desserts.Highly recommend the Cookie Skillet, it was the best I’ve ever had in my life. Check this place out, you will not regret it.

Food was not at all how it looked in their photo section. Fried trout sandwich had one piece of a trout with absolutely no sauce, lettuce, tomato, nothing. Just a sunny bun and fried trout. I had to put some ranch on it to make it edible. Cheese fries were embarrassing and looked like a child’s portion. Kids meal was some shriveled up greasy fries and two chicken strips. We got it to go and there were no napkins, or cutlery inside. $50 for very little food that was subpar at best. The employees also had no masks on. That should have been my clue when I went in to order!I guess with no choice in the area, they stay afloat. Make the drive to Staunton to eat!

Great restaurant. Service is always spot on. The menus specials change each week and are always delicious. This is the restaurant we visit the most in Monterey. Simply great folks and inviting atmosphere.

My extended family of eight stumbled upon this place on our return trip from West Virginia Castaway caboose. The food was very good and the servers were super friendly. I especially liked the hand-cut fries, they were delicious! Everyone in our group commented on how good the food was and some especially liked the house made ranch dressing.

Some of the best food around hands down. Christian Brown is an amazing chef!

We’ve stopped here several times over the last ten years when traveling, and it’s always great comfort food and coffee. However, the “celebrity” chef seems bound and determined to ruin this great place.In addition to clearly being too slow to handle a small lunch “rush” (maybe 1/3 of the tables were occupied), he was loudly berating his service staff for lengthy intervals. I can only hope that he figures it out and straightens up before he ruins a really great small town restaurant.

The waitress was very nice and outgoing as well as attentive to our needs. The cheeseburger and sweet potatoes fries hit the spot. Delicious! They use Himalayan Salt instead of reg white table salt. Nice touch. We will def be returning customers

I love this little restaurant. They have great food and the atmosphere is great. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. If you like small town living and feeling at home you will enjoy a meal here.

Delicious home made meals and desserts served by friendly people. The steak and cheese sandwich with hand cut fries was one of the best that I have ever eaten. This locally owned restaurant is worth the trip.
